"Modern. Great value."
Very clean, modern small hotel with 34 rooms. Our room (#2) was very large (36 m2), with a large well-equipped bathroom, free Wifi and refrigerator. It also had a private patio (but, curiously, without chairs or table?) Breakfast was a large buffet. The only problem was temperature control. None of the windows open. The only option was to either leave the door open with the latch applied, but this really didn’t allow sufficient cool air into the room.

"Pleasant interior, disappointing room"
The staff were gracious and the exterior looked lovely but the standard room we had looked over the roof AC uni, the only window did not provide any air circulation, and the hotel could not provide a fan (or, needless to say, AC, which is less common in Europe). The result was a genuinely uncomfortable night, though the breakfast was a very pleasant buffet. We also went to try the spa but it was dark and the water in the "jacuzzi" appeared cool; there were no instructions on how to operate it and no staff there. Other rooms may be better than the one we stayed in, but this seemed overall like an almost-empty hotel that was more geared towards banquet events than overnight guests.

"Good location"
Nice traditional hotel in a good location. We stayed one night before heading to Germany and on to Denmark & Sweden. Nice room and lovely food in the restaurant. Only downside was that there was no one at reception when we arrived, so we found the check in form and room key on the counter and checked ourselves in ~ this did cause some confusion when we came to add the evening meal to our room bill.

"Short stay at hotel De Arendshoeve at Bergambacht"
Nice hotel, we got a nice room on the ground floor, breakfast and diner available in the restaurant. Diner was a bit expensive if you look at the value for money, The hotel is centrally located and a good starting point for visiting a city like Gouda or Rotterdam. Hotel staff was well trained.

"Lovely hotel"
A really beautiful traditional style hotel with a windmill and creperie within its grounds. Food in the restaurant was exceptional and the staff were friendly, efficient and professional. The rooms are designed to accommodate people with disabilities with wide doors and wetrooms to accommodate wheelchair users without having to relegate these visitors to a few 'special' rooms. It was close to the tulip fields and centrally located in the Netherlands which makes it ideal for a visit.

Art and culture

Just fifteen kilometres from Hampshire Hotel – De Arendshoeve in Bergambacht is the world-famous village of Kinderdijk. If you have never seen the 19 windmills of Kinderdijk, then this is an excellent opportunity. Near Bergambacht is the fortress town of Schoonhoven, or “Zilverstad” (silver city). It was once famous for its silversmiths. With a visit to the Silver Museum you can step back into the rich silver history of Schoonhoven. In the historic city of Gouda you will find splendid medieval buildings, like the Gouda City Hall, the old Waag and the Sint-Janskerk, famous for its brilliant stained-glass windows. In the summer you can visit the famous Gouda cheese market, and in December Gouda hosts the fairy-tale-like candles evening.
